Classic Polish Pierogi with Potato & Cheese

There’s nothing more comforting than a plate of homemade Polish pierogi — soft, chewy dumplings filled with creamy potatoes and cheese.

This recipe has been passed down through generations of our Lithuanian-Polish family, and we’re proud to share it so you can bring a taste of Europe to your table.

🧂 Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup warm water
  • 1 pound potatoes (peeled and boiled)
  • 1 cup farmer’s cheese (or ricotta)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Butter and onions for topping

🍴 Instructions

  1. Make the dough: Combine flour, salt, egg, and warm water. Knead until smooth and soft. Let rest 15 minutes.
  2. Prepare the filling: Mash the potatoes and cheese together, season with salt and pepper.
  3. Shape the pierogi: Roll the dough thin, cut into circles, add a spoonful of filling, and seal the edges.
  4. Cook: Boil pierogi in salted water until they float (about 2–3 minutes).
  5. Finish: Drain and serve with sautéed butter and onions.
